Gujarat’s civil aviation sector offers a fertile field for investors and service providers. One of India’s high-growth states, Gujarat’s economic development is led by increased productivity in manufacturing and agricultural sectors. In recent years, Gujarat’s
tourism industry has also seen improved performance. These developments have yielded a wealth of opportunities for the aviation sector.
Though Gujarat is among India’s leading states in the number of operational airports within its boundaries with excellent highways offering easy access to most of them even from rural areas, the Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Gujarat, has identified
a number of specific sites that have high potential for Greenfield airports/airfields in industrial areas and tourist destinations. Apart from this, demand for small airfields at new centres of growth like ports and industrial zones are also likely to arise
over the years. Apart from new airports, the industrial growth of Gujarat has also created opportunities for intra-state and regional inter-state connectivity for the quick and efficient movement of businesspeople and personnel between commercial centres.
Air Cargo too provides growing opportunities in Gujarat specially for chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles and engineering goods.
Among the non-transport segments, the M.R.O. industry is expected to grow rapidly in India with Gujarat in a position to capitalize on the potential because of its location near major airport cities like Mumbai which are now over congested.
Other areas that offer high growth potential in Gujarat are air sports, non-scheduled transportation and flight training schools.
